Best Juice Extractor Reviews

The Omega 1000 juicer is an excellent counter top juicer with a 10 year warranty.

The Omega 1000 juicer is a very durable centrifugal juicer that utilizes a 1/3 horsepower 250 watt General Electric motor that reaches speeds around 3600 RPMs. The quality of these juicers is unquestionable. They will run forever.

(Note: The Omega 9000 juicer is the same as the 1000 except the 9000 mostly comes in black and has a stainless steel top rather than a plastic one. Everything else is the same.)

Omega 1000 juicer

However, there are some things you need to know about this little juice extractor. It grinds up fruits and vegetables with its stainless steel blades very well but it has minor limitations.

First the advantages to this Omega juicer:

  • The 10 year warranty is crazy. No juicer manufacturers offer longer warranties than Omega. That right there tells you how much they believe in their product. The Omega 1000 has been around for roughly 50 years. This is a very durable machine.
  • If you do need to talk to Omega, their customer service is excellent. They jump through hoops to make sure things go right for you.
  • The juicer is smaller at 12 1/2" and easily fits on your counter top.
  • Omega uses a floating blade on this unit that helps the motor keep its RPMs consistent.
  • If the motor ever gets overloaded and shuts off, there is a handy reset button on the bottom you can push. This is something Breville juicers don't have and need as of this writing.
  • The juicer never needs lubricating unlike Champion juicers which you must keep their motor shafts oiled. (This isn't a giant thing but it is an extra step you must take when using the Champion.)
  • There is a citrus juicer attachment that is optional for this juicer. This attachment will help you produce citrus water but you won't get the nutriment content from the pith which is so valuable. (I prefer to use a different juicer altogether for juicing oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruit with the pith included. I use the Omega 8003 juicer.) However, if you were not to use the citrus attachment, peel the rind off the citrus and cut it up into pieces, you could still get the nutrients of the pith with this juicer.
  • The feeder chute is large enough to take fairly large pieces of fruit and vegetables. It is just the right size for the motor. Often larger chute sizes can bog down the motors or other juice extractors when they become overloaded. This is especially true for the cheaper Hamilton Beach juice extractors, Jack Lalanne power juicers and Juiceman juicers. These units tend to not be as well constructed and problem plagued.
  • The cantilever latch arms work well even though a lot of people think they are going to break. They rarely do but if they do, Omega customer service often gives you free ones.

Now to some possible disadvantages of this Omega 1000 juicer.

  • Some people feel cleaning is a breeze and others think it is harder to clean. Juicers just by their nature will be more or less a hassle to clean. Juicing tends to be messy and all juicers have the potential to make a mess on any given day. This one is average in its ease to clean. It's not as hard to clean as a Norwalk juicer and not as easy as the pulp ejecting models like the Omega 4000 juicer or the Breville JE95XL juicer.
  • From experience I can tell you that you will have to clean the pulp out of the stainless steel bowl after around every quart of juice is produced. Maybe you'll have to clean it more often depending on the type of fruit and vegetables you juice.
  • Like most centrifugal juicers the Omega 1000 is not great with bananas, pineapple and some other soft fruits. However, I feel these soft fruits are wasted by even trying to juice them. I agree with many others and believe you should use a blender for soft fruit and make smoothies. This is a more nutritious and a less wasteful way to utilize these kinds of fruit.
  • This centrifugal juicer works like a clothes washing machine. And like your washing machine when it gets too many towels or jeans on one side of the bin during the spin cycle, it goes out of balance. This will cause the juicer to walk on the counter and make some noise. You can easily remove the pulp and stop the problem or as some people have discovered, you can adjust this out of balance basket by putting in carrots or apples.
  • Compared to many centrifugal juicers on the market this one appears to be underpowered. Many people feel that instead of a 250 watt 1/3 horsepower motor a juicer should have at least 1/2 horsepower and at least 600 watts. That is true for bigger machines but this one is smaller and extremely well designed. It doesn't need all those ponies to still do a good job.
  • The Omega 1000 juicer and its cousin the 9000 are smaller juicers that don't take up too much room on the counter top. They can handle a manageable amount of juicing in smaller quantities. They are great for a person or two. If you have a family and plan on producing a lot of juice, you will probably want to get a bigger pulp-ejecting juicer like the Omega 4000.

The Omega 1000 juicer is a great centrifugal juicer but it does require you to be sensitive to its capabilities. If you are okay with doing that, you'll probably never own another juicer because this one will last forever.
